Boys and chivalric behavior

"Boys will be boys" according to some. They have different perception and different understanding about life. But the thing about them is that--they tend to do things on their own. in our generation today, they see a lot differently. And they tend to forget the value of being chivalric among woman.

Yet what modifies boys from before and our boys from today? Is it about how they look, act, and how they dress? Or is it about manners, etiquette, values and virtues that a guy should possess?

It's easy to be a gentleman if you think about it as a noble act. If a person thinks it is something to be ashamed of, you are definitely wrong, being valiant means being gentle, sincere, faithful, diligent and prudent in many ways. However, the most intriguing question is--is it still practice today?

NOW, LET US EXCHANGE OBSERVATIONS ABOUT BOYS AND CHIVALRIC BEHAVIOR BEFORE AND TODAY'S GENERATION:

1. Polite boys stand when a girl enters the room, and when she departs.
  • Today, boy does nothing.
2. Boys open doors for girls.
  • Boy enters first before girl.
3. Boys graciously give up their seats on buses, trains, etc. when all the seats are taken and a girl is forced to stand.
  • Boy lets the girl stand.
4. If it is raining, the boy holds the umbrella if he is sharing avec a girl.
  • Girl holds the umbrella. Boy does nothing.
5. If a boy and a girl are walking down the sidewalk, the boy walks to the side closest to the street.
  • Boy walks at the safe side of the street.
6. The guy pays if he asked a girl on a date.
  • Girl pays for her date.
7. When a girl is taking a seat at a table, the boy pulls out her chair for her.
  • The girl pulls out her own chair. The guy seats ahead of the girl.
8. Chivalric boys open car doors for girls.
  • Boys does nothing. Girl opens car door.
9. Very old-fashioned, polite boys sometimes order for a girl in a restaurant.
  • Girl orders the food.
10. Polite boys help the girl in carrying heavy objects.
  • A boy does nothing.
Sad to say that in our generation today courtesy or chivalric behavior no longer exist. As time pass by this acts of gentleness and appreciation are no longer implemented. Remember guys that one is chivalric because one is a good person who genuinely wants to make the world a more polite place. It is horrible to pretend to be chivalric when in fact one has Ulterior Motives! you are not allowed to expect the girl you insisted with her luggage will go on a date with you, and you are most certainly not allowed to send someone a bill for helping her change her tire. The only one thing you should expect to receive in return for chivalric act is pleasant, sincere "Thank You." And once you have said, "You're Welcome," you both may be on your Merry, Polite Ways!

  1. CHIVALRY HAS LONG BEEN STAGNANT IN OUR SOCIETY
BECAUSE OF MODERNIZATION AND INTERNET CONFLUENCES.
THERE'S NO MORE GOLDEN TIME LEFT TO BE SWEET OR BE GENTLE.
NEVERTHELESS, I BELIEVE THERE STILL ARE A FEW KNIGHT-IN-SHINING ARMOR SOULS LEFT IN OUR SELF-CENTERED SOCIETY WHO'LL DO GENTLEMANLY ACTS.

  2. The impact of industrialization and globalization has eroded the chivalry tradition. And with the upsurge of feminist movement and clamor of women for equality has diluted the propriety of gentleman's virtue. Nice articles. Keep writing!

  4. hmmm... I guess the answer is that no one believes in fairy tales anymore, not every girl is treated like princess, and prince doesnt exist. Today people are more practical and more modern. The old tradition about boy and girl are gone, thanks to modern media, and the influence of western culture.

    Cute blog btw :-)
